3-D Secure (Three Domain Secure) is a global standard/program developed to carry out secure internet transactions.
The program has been developed in order to enable each cardholder to verify his/her authenticity to the Bank card issuer during an online purchasing transaction.
International payment systems MasterCard and Visa International have developed their own safety programs for online shopping based on 3-D Secure models - MasterCard Secure Code and Verified by Visa.
Main advantages of 3-D Secure programs are:
- Control of unauthorized card usage,
- Usage without the need for a specialized software or hardware for the cardholder,
- Increased customer trust in internet shopping owing to safe transmission of payment information and the possibility of customer participation in payment transactions,
- Enhanced protection from risks of abuse occurring when other individuals use someone else's card online.
- Cardholder is the only person with access to a personal iPIN (Internet PIN) for online payments.
Payment process in 3-D Secure program is as follows:
- Choose the products and services you wish to buy and go to the page (link) for payment
- Enter the requested data (including the card number) and once you click on the button for payment confirmation the Internet shop shall be automatically connected to the Bank for the purpose of verification if the card has been activated for the use of 3D secure service
- If it has been activated, a window with basic data on the transaction, your identification data and request for your iPIN or password entry will appear on your screen
- Verify if the data shown are valid (the amount of transaction, the last four digits on the card, and personal messages)
- Enter your iPIN or password, and confirm the amount
- If the iPIN or password is correct, the Bank shall confirm your identity to the vendor
- The vendor makes an enquiry to the Bank about the available funds in the account and the validity of the card status
- The Bank approves the transaction.
